I had also tried the SD Brobucker (too high-middy), PATB1 (eh.), '59 (VERY nice), Alnico II Pro (another of my favorites) and Jazz Bridge (super tight, extremely clear). * Duncan Custom 5: best balance of tone and power, I ended up sticking with that one * DiMarzio AT1: super rich-sounding, great harmonics. * BK Crawler: HUGE sounding (too big, it was a little overwhelming for a Strat) In my HW1 my three favorite pickups over 8 years of experimentation were: It can be a bit bright in the wrong guitar. The FullShred was my favorite pickup maybe 12 years ago.

These things are meant to be PLAYED and to be played LOUD. With that thin finish, it'll get (more) relic'ed in no time and you won't even care about it. If you can do these repairs and trust that she'll end-up as playable as it gets, that'll be super cool. If this guitar is half of what mine was, it will be worth it no matter the cost. I'm not super nostalgic about guitars, but to think that this AWESOME axe got that refinish and lost her mojo, honestly, it sometimes gets a tear out of me. He had it refinished in a gorgeous flaky gold. I gave it to my at-the-time guitar teacher in exchange for (to be fair, A LOT of) lessons. Tried every pickup under the planet, put on locking tuners, graph-tech saddles, etc. Louder and more powerful than any Custom Shop I ever played. To this day I've never heard a Strat with that much bass/balls. Were it not for the beautiful blue, it would have been super ugly. I had a HW1 in transparent blue, also a 2002.
